The field of competition was fierce for the NSU women's golf team
as they stepped out on the course Friday, Sept. 17 in Wayne, Neb.,
at the Wayne State Women's Invite.
The women's golf team is short a few players this season and only
had three golfers compete in the invite. Because there were not
enough golfers to score as a team, the ladies only competed in the
individual category and came up a little short. Sophomore Krista
Mergens, Cottage Grove, Minn., led the group in scoring with a 99.
Following her was senior Carin Rambow, Litchfield, Minn., with a
106. Sophomore Maggie McGuire, Lake Preston. finished right behind
with a 112.
The invite hosted many area schools including Dakota Wesleyan,
University of Nebraska Omaha, Wayne State University, Midland, Concordia
St. Paul, Hastings College, Morningside College, and NSU. Dakota
Wesleyan took home the team award. Dakota Wesleyan's number one
golfer, Amanda Young, won the overall medal with a score of 77 for
the day.
Both the NSU women's and men's golf teams have a few more meets
to finish out their fall season. The women spent Gypsy Day weekend
in Marshall, Minn. at the Southwest State Invite and then will head
to Winona, Minn., during the first weekend in Oct. The NSU men's
golf team will next head to the Fall Central Regional Invite in
Detroit Lakes, Minn., Sept. 27-28.
