This year, the Northern State University Wolves Cross Country Team welcomed the new season with a new coach. Eric Hunt took the place of former coach Jim Fuller who had coached the Wolves for 16 years. Fuller will remain the head Track and Field coach.

Hunt coached cross country and track and field at Sterling College in Sterling, Kan., prior to coming to NSU. He has been with the Wolves the last two years as a graduate assistant. Hunt graduated in 2000 from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Biology. While at Southwestern, he was a competitive runner in the 5K and 3000 steeplechase.

The Wolves traveled to Sioux Falls on Sept. 11 to participate in the Augustana Meet of Champions, the first meet of the season.

Sophomore Erin Fry, Lisbon, N.D., had the best finishing time of 23:24 and came in 35th for the women’s team. The top NSU men’s finisher, freshman Trent Waage, Aberdeen, placed 34th with a time of 30:48.  Guiding the team were captains junior Lindsey Lesnar, Webster, and junior Nick White, Huron.

The Wolves will be hosting the Roe Granger Invitational on Oct. 8. The NSIC Championships will be held in Wayne, Neb., on Oct. 23. The NCAA II Regional Championships and the NCAA II National Championships will be held in Vermillion on Nov. 6 and Evansville, Ind., on Nov. 20, respectively.
