This season's NFL
picks and predictions

Ah... Sept. I love September. There are so many thing going on, in and out of the sports world.

In Sept., baseball is winding its season down and about getting ready to start the playoffs, NASCAR starts its chase to the cup, and the NFL opens its regular season.

The NFL is 16 grueling games where 32 teams are fighting for 12 playoff spots. In the NFL, every games counts and not much separates a team that can go 12-4 and a team that will go 9-7. At the beginning of the season, there are always a couple of teams that you can write off not making the playoffs. Parity has made this sport what it is today. You never know who will win, and who will lose and go home.

Every year about four of my friends sit down and argue who is going to make the playoffs. We always right down our individual picks and keep them for the end of the season. At the end of the year, we look at them to see who is closest. Usually we only have a couple of the teams right.

In this issue, I am going to tell you teams that I picked for division winners and wild cards and why. I will then tell you who will represent each conference in the Super Bowl and who will win that SuperBowl.

Being a New York Giants fan, I always say that the Giants are going to win the NFC East. I usually say that until they are mathematically eliminated from contention. However, I will put my team aside this time and say that the Philadelphia Eagles will win the NFC East. They were really good already last year, and the addition of Terrell Owens at wide receiver may have put this team over the top. Quarterback Donovan McNabb now has a target on the field that he can throw to. Their defense is just as strong, although they may be a little weak at the corner back position.

The black and blue division which is called the NFC North will be a very competitive this year. As much as I hate the Vikings, I really think that they have what it needs to make a solid push for the playoffs. Daunte Culpepper and Randy Moss is probably the most deadly combo in the NFL. With an improved defense from last season, there is probably no doubt that we will see the purple in the post season

NFC South will probably come down to three teams. Atlanta will make a solid push, and so will New Orleans, but I cant count out the defending NFC champion Carolina Panthers. They didn't get better, but they didn't get any worse. Although, with Steve Smith out with a broken leg, Jake Delhomme will have to find other targets on that offense

The West shows only one team that has a shot at the playoffs. The Seattle Seahawks are just plain awesome. They are pretty solid on offense and they aren’t to bad on defense either. In fact, the Seahawks are my pick to win the NFC and go to the Super Bowl.

Wild Card winners will be the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Falcons because the Redskins added Clinton Portis as running back and Mark Brunell on offense, which will give last year’s struggling offense the boost it needs. Also having Joe Gibbs as head coach is not too shabby.

The Falcons and Michael Vick. That's all I really need to say. An already good Falcons offense added to a healthy Vick is a deadly combo. Watch for this team to get better and better over the years.

AFC will see the Patriots, Colts, Ravens, and Chiefs winning their divisions. Wild Card winners will be the Bengals and the Titans. I will explain why in the next issue.
