Financial Aid Estimate

Award letters showing your official financial aid eligibility are not mailed until late spring. However, if you would like an estimate of what you can expect to receive in financial aid, you may complete the Financial Aid Estimate form. Simply download the form (.pdf), complete it with the information requested, print the form off and return it to NSU's Financial Aid Office at the address indicated. You will receive an estimate of your financial aid award within approximately two weeks.

Keep in mind this is only an estimate to help you with your financial planning. It does not replace the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

FINANCIAL AID:  Determining Eligibility

Two factors affect your eligibility for financial aid, (1) your FINANCIAL NEED which is the amount of aid you may receive; and (2) your PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY which is the type of aid you may receive. Once need is determined, a financial aid package will be tailored for your particular situation.

You are automatically considered for all aid programs for which you are eligible and in which you ask to be considered. Financial need may not be met because of late application and/or limited funds.

The information reported in the FAFSA is used in a formula to calculate Expected Family Contribution (EFC). EFC is the amount the student and family are expected to provide toward educational expenses.

To determine financial need, the EFC is subtracted from the cost of education (tuition, fees, room, board, personal and transportation expenses).

Cost of Education - Expected Family Contribution = FINANCIAL NEED

In addition to demonstrated financial need, aid applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Be registered with the Selective Service, if required
  • Enroll, at least half-time, in a degree or certificate program
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress toward the selected course of study
  • Not be in default of a loan
