Fine Arts Scholarships: Art, Music, Theatre

Art Scholarships


A limited number of scholarship awards are available for new students (entering freshmen or transfer students).
NSU art students in good standing are eligible to apply for variety of scholarship awards administered annually by the art department. Current art students may find scholarship resources on myNSU under Academics--School of Fine Arts.
Art Scholarship Application (for entering freshmen or transfer students)
New art students must submit the following materials by March 1:
1. A cover letter outlining interests and goals
2. Eight (8) examples of art and/or design work.  Examples must be high quality digital photos or original artworks.  Shipping costs are the responsibility of the applicant.
3. High school or college level academic transcripts
4. A letter of reference from an qualified individual – teacher, employer, etc.

Requirements for Recipients
Art Department scholarship winners are expected to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in their major courses. If this standard is not met, the award is subject to withdrawal at the discretion of the Art Department faculty.  


Music Scholarships


Music scholarships are awarded to music and non-music majors on the basis of auditions. If you are unable to attend auditions, please submit a recording. Video recordings are preferred over audio-only.




2016-17 Scholarship Auditions

  • In-person auditions are scheduled for Feb. 19-20, 2016 in Aberdeen
  • Deadline is Feb. 12, 2016 to submit audition by CD or DVD (unlisted YouTube video recommended)


For students submitting a recording, a YouTube video or audio file are recommended. Email “unlisted” link to CDs and DVDs are accepted via the U.S. Postal Service. For details, see application form linked below. 


Past the audition dates

After the current music scholarship deadline has passed, Northern still may offer music scholarships based on availability of funds.  Contact  for details.
