** Bookstore Open Special Hours - 11:00am-4:00pm**

8:00am-3:30pm –Residence Halls Open for New Student Move-In

Take some time to get your things settled in. Pick up keys and other important check-in information. Various clubs will be around the residence halls to help you move in!  Don’t forget to get yourself a September Slam calendar to hang in your room for a chance to win one of numerous prizes!

10:00am-3:30pm – Orientation Check-In - Location: Graham Hall

Meet at the front steps of Graham Hall to start your college experience off right. You will then receive your nametag, meal passes, and orientation schedule of events for the next few days. Leaders will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the next few days.

 4:00pm - Parent Session - Location: Johnson Fine Arts Center 103

This session is for parents only. NSU students, faculty, and staff will be on hand to facilitate a panel discussion from a variety of topics including residence life, dining services, and other services that NSU offers. In addition, the session will also include current topics such as: credit card use, student health insurance policies, and how your student can be successful at NSU.

4:00pm - Orientation Kick-Off  - “Northern Life is Full of Surprises” - Location:  Graham Hall Campus Green

Meet at the Graham Hall steps to get familiar with your orientation groups, leaders, and new friends at NSU. Part of the action will include the Mounga Mixer, an upbeat, energizer to kick off the orientation program facilitated by the NSU staff member Peni Mounga.

4:45pm - Welcome Picnic & Prize-A-Palooza #1 - Location: Graham Hall Steps

 All new students and their families are welcome to attend this picnic co-sponsored by the Admissions office with Live Music by One Week’s Notice, an NSU student band.  Students will get to participate in our first  Prize-A-Palooza of the week.  An opportunity for you to break out of your shell and win some really cool prizes.  And were not talking about the prizes you find in a cereal box!

7:00-9:00-Residence Life Meetings - Location: Various Residence Halls

Please report to your assigned residence hall for mandatory meetings. These meetings will introduce you to the hall staff, review policies and procedures for life in residence halls.

9:00-NSU Campus Life Video & Mentalist Chris Carter’s “Theater of Thoughts”  Location: Johnson Fine Arts Center Main Stage

Sit back and relax. Enjoy a short film highlighting campus life at NSU! Then be prepared to be amazed by Mentalist Christopher Carter; one of the world’s most skilled, creative, and original thought-readers.  You will leave astounded and speechless!

11:30pm – NSU Wolves Soccer vs. Dakota Wesleyan & Prize-A-Palooza #2 - Location:  Clark Swisher Activities Complex

The orientation fun continues with more Prize-A-Palooza action before the game, more food, more contests and a special late-night NSU Wolves Soccer action vs. Dakota Wesleyan.  Transportation will be provided to and from the complex.

11:30am-Lunch in Jerde Hall Sponsored by School of Education

Finger Lickin’ Good! You must show your student ID card to receive lunch, which is part of your meal plan. If you are not part of a selected meal plan, the cost of lunch will be posted at the time of the meal.

12:30 pm- Prize-A-Palooza! #3 & “Timing Your Success w/ Coach Don Meyer” - Location: Johnson Fine Arts Center Main Stage

We’re coo-coo for Coach Meyer! Hear from NSU Men’s Basketball coach on ways to become successful at Northern. Plus, you won’t want to miss a chance at winning some more cool prizes.

2:00-5:00 pm Wylie Park Bash - Location: Wylie Park

SURPRISE!  Dont worry about paying for bumper boats, go-karts, and mini-golf, it’s FREE!  Come to Wylie Park, one of Aberdeen’s favorite attractions to have a fun and free day at the beach!  Be sure to bring your orientation nametag to get in FREE.  Transportation will be provided from the Johnson Fine Arts Center but you can drive out there on your own if you wish to be first in line for the go-karts!

2:00-5:00 pm – Non Traditional Drop In Orientation -Location:  Student Center Room Gold B

We understand that new non-traditional students have very busy schedules and cannot make all orientation activities.  That is why we have set up a mini-orientation to answer all questions you might have about Starting Northern Life!  Staff will be on hand as well as current non-trads for networking and other information.

6:00pm-Supper in Jerde Hall – Sponsored by School of Business

You must show your student ID card to receive lunch, which is part of your meal plan. If you are not part of a meal plan, the cost of lunch will be posted at the time of the meal.

7:00-9:00pm -Residence Life Meetings Part II - Location:  Assigned Residence Halls

Please report to your assigned residence hall for another mandatory meeting. These meetings will introduce you to the hall staff, review policies and procedures for life in residence halls.

9:00pm-Monday Night Dynamite - Location:  Intramural & Student Recreation Center-Dacotah Hall

Come to the ISRC for a night of craziness after your residence hall meetings!  The ISRC will feature a carnival style atmosphere with inflatable games, a putting green, Play Station 2’s all over the place and numerous other carnival-like games.  Oh and did we mention the FREE food and AWESOME prizes?

Evening Classes Begin at 4:00 pm

8:00am-Workstudy Meeting – Location: Johnson Fine Arts Center 134

This meeting is required if you plan on working on campus through Federal Work Study. If you are not sure if you are Work Study eligible, it is still a good idea to attend.

9:00am-12:00pm - Group Carousel (Fee Payment, Computer Lab, Campus PO, Student ID, Library Tour, Student Activities & Club Information, etc)

It is time to get down to business as the Orientation Group Carousel begins.  Here is where you will pay for tuition and fees, get your computer user id, learn where you get your mail, tour the library, and get your student ID card.  Be sure to meet your Orientation Group before so you don’t miss this VERY important session.

12:00pm-Lunch in Jerde Hall – Sponsored by College of Arts & Sciences & Fine Arts

You must show your student ID card to receive lunch, which is part of your meal plan. If you are not part of a meal plan, the cost of lunch will be posted at the time of the meal.

1:00-4:00pm- Non Traditional Student Drop In Orientation - Location:  Student Center Room Gold B

We understand that new non-traditional students have very busy schedules and cannot make all orientation activities.  That is why we have set up a mini-orientation to answer all questions you might have about Starting Northern Life!  Staff will be on hand as well as current non-trads for networking and other information.

1:30pm -RIOT Acts & Prize-A-Palooza #4 – Johnson Fine Arts Center Main Stage

You will get a few “surprises” thrown at you when you see your Orientation Leaders give a very informative look at life as NSU Students.  A variety of topics are covered ranging from homework to dating, and everything in between.  You can also win a few prizes if you’re nice to your Orientation Leaders!

3:00 pm- International Students Meeting – Location: Johnson Fine Arts Center 103

The International Students Meeting will cover topics such as: Banking, Visa issues, Social Security cards, Driver’s Licenses, On-Campus employment, Health & Safety, Course Registration, Tuition Payment and general acculturation information. It is mandatory for all new international students to attend.

5:00pm- Presidents’ Picnic & Orientation Olympics - Location:  Graham Hall Steps/Campus Green

Join President Schloss and the rest of the NSU Campus community on the campus green for FREE food and fun.  Following the picnic get your group ready for the always popular NSU tradition “Orientation Olympics”.   Who knows, maybe we will give away a few prizes!?!?

8:00-Ice Cream Social @ The Newman Center

Sponsored by Campus Ministries there is no better way to cool off from Orientation Olympics than with an ice cream social with your new NSU friends!  Join students and advisors from the Campus Ministries for some amazing ice cream and fun!
