Northern Galleries operates a total
of four exhibition spaces. These spaces include the Isaac Lincoln Gallery,
the Presidents Gallery, the Student Center Gallery, and the Johnson
Fine Arts Center Gallery. Though we do not maintain a hard and fast exhibition
policy, tradition has tended to establish different roles for our various
galleries. The Isaac Lincoln Gallery is usually reserved for professional
artists and members of the Art Department faculty. What is typically displayed
in the Presidents Gallery are works by regional artists and selected
pieces from our permanent collection. The Student Center Gallery is a good
venue for three-dimensional pieces and works produced by students. However,
professional artists with a limited number of items to show also like the
Student Center Gallery. In the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery, one will
mostly find permanent collection pieces and exhibitions that reflect a special
interest or theme.
All of our galleries are open between the months of September and May.
The Presidents Gallery and the Student Center Gallery are the only
two galleries open during the summer. Our galleries are accessible Monday
through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Depending on the building in which
the gallery is housed, our galleries may be open longer (this would be
typical of the Presidents Gallery, the Student Center Gallery, and
the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery).
To the left you will find link buttons that will take you to each of
our four galleries. When you get to a particular gallery page, you will
be given, through more link buttons, the opportunity to view other aspects
of the galleries. The Exhibitions button will advance you to the years
schedule for the gallery. The Specifications button will help you if you
are interested in the dimensions of a gallery and/or a schematic. The
Photographs button will give you a chance to view various pictures of
our galleries.
Whether you are a casual visitor or an artist who is planning to show
at Northern State University, we hope you will find these pages useful
and informative.
