Mathematics Contest: Since the spring of 1953 Northern State University has held an annual mathematics contest for high school students. The 50th Annual Mathematics Contest is scheduled for April 16, 2003. Dr. Haigh currently serves as Director of the contest. (Summary of 2002 Contest)
Athletic Committee:The Athletic Committee serves as an advisory group to the Faculty Senate on policies concerning the governance of intercollegiate and intramural athletics by reviewing conference and national actions, eligibility of athletes, including local standards, scheduling, space utilization, ticket pricing, and other areas brought to its attention by the President, the Faculty Senate, or the membership. The eleven-member committee recently completed the NCAA Division II Self-Study of NSU.
Faculty Athletics Representative for Northern: Since 1981, Dr. Haigh has served as Faculty Athletics Representative for Northern. Duties include the monitoring of eligibility of student athletes, administering recruiting tests to all coaches, representing Northern at NSIC and NCAA meetings, and serving as a liaison between athletics and faculty.
President of Faculty Senate: Dr. Haigh is Past-President of the Faculty Senate. During his 38 years at Northern he has served on the Faculty Senate for 31 years and has been President of the Senate seven times.
Director of Eisenhower Projects: Drs. Haigh and Elkhader have served as directors of computer software projects during the past five years. The current project is entitled "Using Computer Software in the Teaching of Algebra and Geometry."
Coordinator for Northern State University's NCA Self-Study: William Haigh served as Coordinator for Northern state University's Self-Study for the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) from the fall of 1994 until the spring of 1997. The self-study was successful and Northern State University was accredited for 10 years in the spring of 1997.
