I am an adult reader of Dr. Seuss who was introduced to
him during my teens. I remember being the babysitter who needed to
entertain children and what better thing to do than to read a story or
two. I found in The Cat in The Hat one naughty cat and two
kids who were destined to get the punishment that the Cat deserved.
Thankfully, the evidence of his tom-foolery was destroyed in the nick of
time in the story but I seem to recall a coaxing voice or two and an incident
or two in my own experience. Why is it that my mom ALWAYS found out,
evidence or not?
I enjoy Dr. Seuss because reading his stories I
find memories of childhood emotions, joys and fears. I find acceptance
for the child I was, less of the loneliness and sadness that I felt back
then. I like him because he seems to understand how children think
and feel and I think that's one reason why his work is appealing to so
many.
