Reference Materials
  • The Standard Deviants' English Composition, Grammar, and Punctuation pages contain streaming video, interactive quizzes and games for reviewing these elements of writing.
  • An on-line Guide to Grammar and Writing, containing discussions of grammar issues and various activities to help learn them.  (From a community college.)
  • The on-line version of Strunk & White's Elements of Style can help answer questions about grammar, usage, and other writing mechanics.
  • "Richard Lederer's Verbivore" offers humorous and interesting facts about language and may help in vocabulary building; it has a playful, "punnish" approach to language.
  • Evan Jenkins's "Language Corner" from the Columbia Journalism Review offers helpful pointers on a variety of grammar and usage problems.
  • Several sites offer assistance on documentation, including the Modern Language Association's own authorized guide to MLA style, the Walker/ACW Style Sheet for on-line references and Concordia College's (California) MLA Documentation Guide.
  • For advice on how to evaluate Web resources, turn to Widener University's site or to "Thinking Critically about WWW Resources" at UCLA.
  • For a fee, the on-line writing center at Critiqueme.com will help you improve a paper, from minor tune-ups to major overhauls - they even offer rush service (for a higher fee).  Remember, though: similar help is available on campus at the Writing Center.
  • Researchpaper.com provides research paper help.  Here you will find ideas for topics, pointers on writing, and a guide to research.
  • "Gorilla Tactics" offers pointers for doing research papers fast.  WARNING: Although Gorilla Tactics will help you recover from a difficult situation, as a general rule, I do not recommend leaving papers until the last minute.
