Blacks are treated so horribly by most whites at this
time, these children [in Mildred Taylor's Mississippi Bridge] have
every right to be suspicious of Jeremy. Although Jeremy obviously
didn't agree with the actions of his father and the other adults, the Logans
may have even felt a sense of anger or resentment towards Jeremy for the
way his race treated their race. It would be hard to accept someone
whose entire race seemed to be persecuting yours.
