Why the Logans Mistrust Jeremy (III)

The Logans keep Jeremy at a distance because he is white. They know that the white folks treat them with no respect, so they think that Jeremy is going to treat them the same way.  Take for example the scene when the children go to the bridge and Jeremy tells them to wait for him.  The children keep moving because they don't want to be seen with a white child like Jeremy.  The respect the fact that he doesn't treat them like anyone else, but they still are unable to trust him with being around him by other black and white folks.  So in this respect the Logans are to keep their distance from being returning their friendship to Jeremy.
