Pictorial Focus in The Napping House (Audrey Wood)
Throughout the entire book, the pictures illustrate exactly what the
words are saying. . . There is obviously more shown in the pictures than
what is told in the story, but what the author is focused on is what the
reader picks out of the picture. As the story goes on, the pictures seem
to zero in on the bed, making it larger in each subsequent picture as if
it is getting closer to the reader. The additional items in the pictures
get smaller, showing they are less relevant to the story. The relevant
items in the picture that coincide with the words are enlarged to show
their importance.
