Paper # 2 - Narrative of a Summer Experience

For this paper, you are to write a 4-6-page narrative, a story, about an experience that demonstrates particular qualities associated with “summer.”  The paper should not only tell the story of what happened, but should make clear the way in which this narrative relates to summer.

Not all experiences that take place in summer are necessarily “typical” of summer; for instance, perhaps you remember being hospitalized for a broken leg in July.  If the fact that it took place in July is an essential part of the experience (e.g., if it happened while rock climbing in Montana, an activity that isn’t very feasible anytime but the summer, or if its chief significance is that it kept you from your family’s annual reunion over 4th of July), then it is a “summer experience.”  But if the fact that it occurred in summer is incidental (e.g., if you broke your leg when you tripped on some rough pavement, which could happen anytime), then it is not.

Your narrative should include descriptive material, perhaps bits of description that you developed for the first paper but either did not use there or can use here in a new context.

DUE DATE: Thursday, June 21, 2001.
You should have a rough draft ready for discussion on Wednesday, June 20.
