Reader Response to The Giver
Of the books that we have read thus far, this one, in my opinion, is
the one that most directly calls on the reader's imagination, making the
reader think about the "what if..." of it all. The images and ideas
that it presents are all very disturbing, but at the same time make the
reader appreciate the world that he/she really is in. This is a book
that I would consider teaching even to freshmen in high school. I
think that this book could lead to some interesting discussion that makes
high school kids think about a different world, which they really aren't
called on to do all that often. The book was an easy and interesting
read.
