 Alert: Windows 7

 Systems Affected: All Windows Users

Microsoft launched its newest operating system (Windows 7) on October 22nd. For many users, this means upgrading from a previous version (Windows 2000 or Vista) or purchasing a new computer with Windows 7 already installed.

NSU utilizes Cisco Clean Access (CCA) to ensure our network remains safe and secure. This software is required for users of the wireless network and users in the residence halls. It checks computers to ensure they have updated antivirus software and Windows has all critical security patches. The Clean Access version NSU is utilizing checks each machine for the operating system to determine what patches should be installed. However, Cisco currently does not have a version available that supports Windows 7 but is actively working on this newer version. Once it is available, NSU will upgrade during a time that is as least disruptive to students as possible.

If you have plans to upgrade your machine or to purchase a new device with Windows 7, you must contact the NSU Help Desk at help@northern.edu so that NET Services can assist you in accessing the network.
