Media Services, as part of
Northern State University, manages two state of
the art production studios housed in the
Technology Center. The productions studios are
primarily used for producing shows for
distribution on NSU’s channel 12. Shows include
Inside NSU, which is hosted by President Schloss
and Tracking the Wolves hosted by Coach Olson.
In addition to programming for channel 12, the
studios are also used for recording digital
audio and video for use in online courses and
class presentations.
The studios utilize state of the art digital and
analog recording equipment including DPS
Velocity, Toaster, Avid Liquid and Final Cut
Pro. To take full advantage of the technologies
currently available Media Services has invested
in high definition (HD) technology and has the
capability to produce content in full HD.
Staging in the studio includes a NUNS unit,
which is a multi-configurable desk and back
drop. The back drop can be chroma-keyed and
allows any form of digital content to be
inserted in real time during a recording.
All of the recording equipment used in the
studios is wired back to a central control room
for production purposes and to Digi-Central,
which is our centralized monitoring room for
live web streaming. This allows content that is
being produced in our studios to be streamed
live over the Internet in real-time during an
event’s production.
