The best thing to do when preparing your
computer for network access in the Residence Halls is to keep current on
your patches. Clean Access requires all Security and Critical Windows
Updates to be installed.
To install updates you can
use this link
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp or do the
following:
-
Open Internet Explorer
-
Click on Tool, Windows
Update
-
Click the Scan for Updates link
-
Install critical updates only
-
You may need to restart your machine and check for
updates several times if you are way behind. Keep running Windows
Update until you get a message stating there are no critical updates
at this time.
Spam has become a huge problem. We recommend
that you install an anti-spyware program on your computer to help keep it
free of spam. We have instructions for
Lavasoft's Ad-Aware but there are many other free programs that will
work the same.
There are a few things that you will not be able
to do until you are physically connected to the NSU network in the residence
hall. This includes installing the Clean Access Agent and installing
Symantec Antivirus.
By keeping current on updates and keeping spam
off your computer, you'll greatly decrease the amount of time and effort it
takes to get your computer authenticated on the NSU network.
