Left click Start. Go to and click Control Panel on the Start Menu.

If your Control Panel dialog box looks like this then click on Switch to
Category View as shown above and continue. If your Control Panel does not

Once your Control Panel dialog box looks like this then click on
Performance
and Maintenance.

You will now want to click on the link that say Rearrange items on your hard
disk.

you may receive a pop up that will state if the computer believes the volume
should be defragmented. Just click on the pop up add and it will
disappear.
even if it say that this volume does not need to be
defragmented you can still defragment and it won't harm anything
Next you will click on the drive you want to defragment if you have a choice.
For many users you will only have a (C:) drive to choose from.
Once you have selected the drive you can click defragment. This may
take a little while depending on how many fragmented files it shows, the size of
the drive you are defragmenting, and how much space is actually free space on
the drive.
Once finished a pop up will appear saying that the drive has finished
defragmenting. Just click ok and close out of the defragmenting dialog
box.
Defragmenting moves around files to save room and make a computer run faster
because unused files will not be cluttering good space for files that are used
more often.
