Security is an important part of keeping your computer healthy and virus-free. There are two critical tasks to keeping your computer secure.
1. Microsoft Critical Updates: Frequently you should check for critical security updates.
a. Open Internet Explore and select Tools >> Windows Update
b. Select Scan for Updates
c. Select Review and Install Updates if there are critical updates.
d. Click the Install Now button.
c. You may need to restart your machine after the critical updates are installed. Sometimes, one security update requires you to restart prior to continuing installation of the other updates.
2. Symantec AntiVirus Software: NSU installs this on all computers on campus. If you bring a laptop to campus, it must be checked at the Help Desk in TC 148 prior to connecting to the network.
a. To ensure that your antivirus software is functioning correctly, double-click the gold shield on the bottom, right corner of your computer screen.
b. The Virus Definition File should be recent (last day or two).
c. If the definition file date is several weeks or more old, please contact the NSU Help Desk immediately at 626.2283.
