COACHING MINOR

A minor in coaching is designed to professionally prepare the student to become an effective coach both on and off the field of play. No one can teach the perfect way to coach, as each individual is unique and so is the situation in which we find ourselves, but having a strong background of knowledge and experience can help each coach handle each situation in an effective manner. Courses include an in-depth study of the methods and strategies of coaching individual and teams sports and an application of these principles in an actual coaching setting.

The following courses are required for the Coaching minor:

HLTH 251, First Aid and CPR (2 credits)
PE 352, Adapted Physical Education (2 credits)
PE 354, Prevention and Care of Athletic Injury (2 credits)
PE 355, Teaching Sport and Lifetime Skills (2 credits)
PE 379, Sports for individuals with Disabilities (2 credits)
PE 440, Organization & Administration of Health, PE and Athletics (3 credits)
PE 453, Sports Psychology (3 credits)
Coaching (3 credits)
  Select from PE 469, 470, 471, 473, 474, 475, 476
