ALPHA - CHAMBER

HPE Lab HPE High jumper Basketball

  • This chair serves as a relaxation chamber and is a staple in many human performance labs. Alpha chambers are used to help individuals engage in relaxation, imagery, self-efficacy enhancement, and/or performance enhancement. Athletes to exercisers, young and old, can benefit psychologically from use of the Alpha chamber.
  • Key uses include:
    •   relaxation
    •   receptivity to simulation programs (e.g., improve efficacy to exercise; confidence in athletic performance)
    •   guided imagery
    •   stress management
  • As part of the Human Performance lab at Northern State University, the Alpha Chamber can help meet the exercise, performance, and health needs of individuals psychologically, as well as provide a tool for conducting research. For example,  exercise psychologists identify self-efficacy as a major barrier to adults engaging in exercise behavior. Use of the Alpha Chamber can assist individuals in developing appropriate behaviors for engaging in appropriate exercise programs.
