2006-07 Intramural Sportswoman & Sportsman of the Year

TRISHA THIELEN TONY THOMAS
The student body and Intramural staff have chosen Trisha Thielen and Tony Thomas as the 2007 Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year award. The award was presented at the 20th Annual Student Involvement Awards Banquet on April 25.
Over 19 students were nominated for this prestigious award that recognizes athletic skill, sportsmanship, leadership, and character. Other finalists were Jackie Petrik, Kellie Heier, Jackson Graf, and Andy Wolf.
Thielen, a senior from Pavillion, WY, participated in a variety of activities including co-ed volleyball, co-ed sand volleyball, co-ed softball, and basketball. She is often seen supporting other teams when she is not playing.
Thomas, a sports marketing senior from Rapid City, SD, has been a fixture in the program as he has served as captain of many teams, helped coordinate fundraising drives for tournaments, and volunteers time on the Student Board of Directors.
“Congratulations to all students nominated,” said Travis Sieber, NSU student activities director. “Trisha and Tony are both first class people and serve as great ambassadors to campus recreation at NSU.”

2005-2006 Intramural Sportswoman & Sportsman of the Year


The Intramurals Staff has awarded Angie Olson, (Senior, Belle Fourche) and JR Duehring (Senior, Scapposse, OR) as the inaugural recipients of the Sportswoman & Sportsman of the Year. This award was discussed and selected by 10 Intramurals staff members and was presented at the 19th Annual Student Involvement Banquet on April 27, 2006. The honor was created to recognize individuals for their sportsmanship, leadership, participation, skill, and character on and off the field or court. Nominee’s were taken from staff members and each individual needed to participate in a minimum of 3 activities throughout the year.
Olson and Duehring each received high praise from the staff. “Both recipients are classy people and are ambassadors to our programs.” said Travis Sieber, Director of Intramurals.
Three finalists were chosen in each category and were represented at the banquet. The finalists were: Abby Kroupa, Amber Welke, Sean Calhoun and Chris Spiering. The staff reviewed 17 total nominations for this prestigious award.
