This is where you get your tickets and wait for the bus. Hobbiton
was set up to last only as long as filming or 12 months, which ever came
first. That is why some of it is refurbished.
They have Tolkien's description of a Hobbit hole on the wall.
Let the Tour begin.
It was the lake with the trees around it that grabbed the attention of
Peter Jackson as they flew over parts of NZ to look for areas to film.
This is Bagend, the home of Bilbo and Frodo.
You can see some other Hobbit holes. Bagend is the only one you can
walk into because it was found that the sheep were taking shelter in them.
The land owners, the Alelxander family, were out and about.
There's a wide view of most of what's left of Hobbiton. There were
originally 37 Hobbit holes and only 17 are standing.
This is the party tree, where Bilbo had his 111th birthday.
Me at Sam's house. It has been refurbished and the chimney is shorter
than it was so that it isn't knocked over by the sheep.
If you look closely at the party tree you can see a red ribbon. It
was from when the tree was decorated for Bilbo's birthday party.
This piece got caught and was left.
This one is larger so that you can try to see the red pole between the
trees. It marks the spot where Sam stops and says "If I take another
step I'll be farther from the Shire then I have ever been before."
