Me sitting outside by one of the Tikies.

This was one way to catch birds.  The birds caught this way were for certain women.  I think the man said that the blood from the birds would mix with the berries and work like a contraceptive.

Our waka (bus) driver, Dennis the menace cant play tennis, and others singing the fair well/until we meet again song.

This is the carving that was over the exit from the village.

This is a picture of a picture of the pink and white terraces.  They were distorted in 1886 where the volcano Terrawera had a massive eruption.

Maori used to take settlers to the terraces (early tourism).  A few days prior to the eruption, Sophie (a well known guide) notice a war waka on the lake.  However, it disappeared and is known as the phantom war canoe.  That is what this is a carving of.  The Village's spiritual guide interpreted it as an omen of a terrible disaster.

I like this painting of the eruption of Mt. Terrawera.

Corey and I are walking through the buried village...some buildings have been excavated.  This pathway is new and we are the first ones to cross it...the carpenter took the picture. :)

Corey by the waterfall, at the higher point on the walk.

Me at the bottom of the walk way past the waterfall.
