Under this pavilion is where the rubble from the old city was piled.
The silver ball that I am standing next to is a memorial to the sailors
of H.M.S. Veronica, who helped locals during and after the Earthquake...they
sent word to Auckland, rescued people, aided in putting out fires, etc...general
heroics.
