ORAL COMMUNICATION LAB AND SPEECH CLASSROOM
Oral Communication Lab
The Oral Communication Lab is located in Seymour Hall Room 203. The Speech Classroom is located in Seymour Hall Room 116. It is designed to aid students in their preparation of their speeches and improving of speaking skills for all speech classes offered at Northern. Special facilities available to speech students include state-of-the-art audio, visual and computer equipment.
There are lab assistants to help students work the equipment. Some of services offered are:
Communication Lab
COMPUTERS-these computers are equipped with internet access for research, Power Point to enhance presentations of speeches, and Microsoft Word for students to type any written work needed for classes. The computers are also hooked up to a scanner.
VIDEO-EQUIPMENT-the lab offers the video equipment for students to video-tape their speeches for oral rehearsal before class (pre-video taping) and for self evaluation after giving the speeches in class (post-video taping). This is a good tool to aid students in public speaking skills.
Speech Classroom
TECHNOLOGY BASED CLASSROOM-the Speech classroom allows for students to use the newest technology. Students are able to present information on an overhead screen through an ELMO, computer, and VCR. The computer has internet access for student's use. Many students use power point to present pictures, information, and graphs during their speeches, to help their audience visually understand their topic. The classroom is also equipped with video equipment used to tape speeches for students to evaluate themselves.
