Dictionary of Old English

The Dictionary of Old English (DOE) defines the vocabulary of the first six centuries (600 - 1150 A.D.) of the English language, using today's most advanced technology. The DOE complements the Middle English Dictionary (which covers the period 1100 - 1500 A.D.) and the Oxford English Dictionary (which documents the development of the English language to the present), the three together providing a full description of the vocabulary of English.

 

Dictionary of Old English Web Corpus

The Dictionary of Old English Web Corpus is an online database consisting of at least one copy of every surviving Old English text. In some cases, more than one copy is included, if it is significant because of dialect or date. As such, the DOE Web Corpus represents over three million words of Old English and fewer than a million words of Latin, or almost five times the collected works of Shakespeare.

Fulltext reference resources from Credo including illustrated medical, dental and pharmaceutical dictionaries, guides to health information, etc.

 

AltHealthWatch
In-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine, focusing on many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It contains full text articles for more than 180 international, and often peer-reviewed journals and reports, hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts. Indexing and abstracts go back to 1984. Full text coverage begins in 1990.

 

Consumer Health Complete
Full text articles from health encyclopedias, reference books and alternative health sources, as well as health-related news reports, pamphlets, and drug and herb information. Content includes not only articles, but images and diagrams as well as videos and animations.

Searchable access to nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition also features the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 brand names.

Health care information from the world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine. Contains information on health topics, drug information, dictionary, encyclopedia, and directories of health care professionals.

Influenza: Evidence-based Information Portal
From the database: "Due to Pandemic H1N1 Influenza (formerly known as Swine Flu) and concerns about the 2009/2010 flu season, the EBSCO Publishing Medical and Nursing editors of DynaMed™, Nursing Reference Center™ (NRC) and Patient Education Reference Center™ (PERC) have made key influenza information from these resources freely available to health care providers worldwide. The information is designed to inform patients and their families and provide information to clinicians to help them with H1N1 diagnosis and H1N1 treatment by making up-to-date diagnosis and treatment information available. Making of America (Cornell Univ.)
The Cornell University Library Making of America Collection is a digital library of primary sources in American social history from the antebellum period through reconstruction. The collection is particularly strong in the subject areas of education, psychology, American history, sociology, religion, and science and technology. This site provides access to 267 monograph volumes and over 100,000 journal articles with 19th century imprints. The project represents a major collaborative endeavor in preservation and electronic access to historical texts.

Digital library of primary sources in American social history from the Antebellum period through Reconstruction; a joint effort of the University of Michigan and Cornell University. According to the site, the Michigan collection focuses on education, psychology, American history, sociology, religion, and science and technology, while Cornell focuses mainly on digitizing general interest periodicals.

Developed by the USGS; contains information about almost 2 million physical and cultural geographic features in the United States, as well as foreign and undersea areas.

Resource devoted to early modern women's writing covering a period from 1400 to 1850.

 

Sanborn Maps Online - South Dakota
Online database of Sanborn fire insurance maps for the state of South Dakota. Included maps date from 1884 to 1960. These maps provide a wealth of information about buildings – size, dimensions, building materials used, function, and location of windows and doors. They were updated yearly, so a review of maps from several years can provide a good idea of when and what changes were made to a building.

NSU students now have access to the Chemical Abstracts Service database, which includes references from over 9,500 journals and more than 50 active patent issuing authorities. These journals provide complete coverage in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, biology, pharmacology, and medicine. In addition to these subject areas, SciFinder Scholar contains the worlds largest collection of organic and inorganic substance information. Access is limited to NSU faculty and student. **To use SciFinder Scholar you must first create a personal account; you will use your personal username and password to access the database.

Sourcebook of Criminal Statistics is a database created by University at Albany School of Criminal Justices and contains information about the characteristics of the criminal justice systems, public attitudes towards crime and justice, nature and distribution of known offenses, characteristics and distribution of persons arrested, judicial processing of defendants and information about persons under correctional supervision.

 

Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics

The Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics brings together data from more than 100 published and unpublished sources about many aspects of criminal justice in the United States. Since 1973, the project has been located at theUniversity at Albany, School of Criminal Justice, and compiled and managed by staff at the Hindelang Criminal Justice Research Center in Albany, New York.

Site of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Contains published transportation research.

 

Data source on the global economy; contains statistical data for over 550 development indicators and time series data from 1960-2008 for over 200 countries and 18 country groups. Data includes social, economic, financial, natural resources, and environmental indicators.
