Sheet Music Consortium on the Web
"The Sheet Music Consortium is a group of libraries working toward the goal of building an open collection of digitized sheet music."  Consortium members include: Library of Congress, Duke University, Indiana University, Maine Music Box, Johns Hopkins University, National Library of Australia, and UCLA.

Archive of Popular American Music (UCLA Music Library)
"A research collection covering the history of popular music in the United States from 1790 to the present.  [I]nitiative designed to provide access to digital versions of the sheet music, and performances of the songs now in the public domain." 

Historic American Sheet Music (Duke University)
"The Historic American Sheet Music Project provides access to digital images of 3042 pieces from the collection, published in the United States between 1850 and 1920."

Indiana University Sheet Music
"The web site allows you to search some of the holdings from the Lilly Library's approximately 150,000 pieces of sheet music, including those for which there are digitized images [of the sheet music] available."

The Indianan "search and discovery system for accessing sheet music from the Indiana University Lilly Library, the Indiana State Library, the Indiana State Museum, and the Indiana Historical Society."

Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music (Johns Hopkins University)
"The collection consists of over 29,000 pieces of American popular music. The collection spans the years 1780 to 1980, but its strength is its thorough documentation of nineteenth-century America through popular music. The collection is especially strong in music spawned by military conflicts from the War of 1812 through World War I, and minstrel music is also well-represented."

Music for the Nation: American Sheet Music (Library of Congress)
Contains more than 62,500 pieces of historical sheet music registered for copyright: more than 15,000 registered during the years 1820-1860 and more than 47,000 registered during the years 1870-1885. Included are popular songs, operatic arias, piano music, sacred and secular choral music, solo instrumental music, method books and instructional materials, and music for band and orchestra.

ARChive of Contemporary Music
From the site: "The ARChive collects, preserves and provides information on the popular music of all cultures and races throughout the world from 1950 to the present. Since the ARChive's founding in 1986 our holdings have grown to over 1.5 million sound recordings, making the ARChive the largest popular music collection in the United States."

The ArtsEdge 
The National Arts and Education Network. From the site: "ARTSEDGE offers free, standards-based teaching materials for use in and out of the classroom, as well as professional development resources, student materials, and guidelines for arts-based instruction and assessment." 

DW3 Classical Music Resources (Duke University Music Library)
Metasite for classical music resources. Sections include Composer Homepages, Chronologies and Necrologies, National and Regionally Oriented Pages, Organizations and Centers for Scholarly Research, Electronic Journals and Newsletters, Genre-Specific Pages, and Databases. 

Internet Archive - Audio
The Internet Archive is a non-profit that was founded to build an Internet library, with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, etc. in the digital format.  Audio is one aspect of the site.  Also, check out the sub-collections in the middle of the Audio homepage.

Jazz Roots
Site focusing primarily on the first thirty years of jazz. Provides an introduction to the development of jazz, along with information about various musicians and composers. 

Music Theory Online: A Journal of Criticism, Commentary, Research, and Scholarship
From the site: "Music Theory Online is the refereed, electronic journal of the Society for Music Theory, Inc.. Published several times each year, each issue includes features such as articles, book reviews, and reports from a distinguished panel of International Correspondents."
