Jackie Hanson
Named South Dakota
Librarian of the Year
At the banquet for the South Dakota Library Association conference on
October 6, Jackie Hanson, Systems Librarian and Interlibrary Loan
Manager, got a surprise she never imagined. She was named South Dakota Librarian of
the Year.
Over the past many years, since we were first informed that our
online catalog, PALS, would cease to be, Jackie has been in the
forefront to help find a suitable replacement. Williams Library is part
of a consortium that constitutes the South Dakota Library Network, and
Jackie has worked closely with her peers to make the transition to the
new catalog as smooth as possible. She is the person other librarians
have come to for solutions to particularly frustrating problems. Always
curious, always patient and professional, Jackie has shown great
leadership abilities that has won her respect and admiration from all
over the state.
Those of us who have worked with Jackie over the years in Williams
Library feel she has deserved this award many times over, and are
thankful she has been recognized.

Williams
Library Goes Wireless
No, those aren’t space aliens hovering above waiting to pounce on an
unsuspecting person. They are access points to the NSU wireless network.
Williams library has gone wireless! Bring in your computer, make
yourself comfortable and work in peace anywhere in the library.
We have rearranged furniture, removed study carrels, and added tables
all to make it easier to set yourself up to work comfortably. We have
added more large tables for groups to get together, and smaller ones for
individuals to spread out their books. Come to the library to see what
all we have done.
