Who can use the library?
Any member of the public is welcome to use the library. The library has area newspapers, a small leisure reading collection, and of course, a wide variety of books and other academically-oriented materials.

K-12 schools/minors:
Schools with agreements with Williams Library may allow their students to borrow materials if they have a valid pass from the school's designated librarian. Interested in a borrowing agreement?Contact the Circulation Manager (626-2646). Minors may have a parent or guardian with an NSU ID or valid guest card (see below) borrow materials for them.

How can I get a library card?
If you have a valid SD library card in good standing - no outstanding fines or blocks - and you are over 18, you can have your public library card activated for use at Williams Library. Present your card at the circulation desk when you first come to Williams Library. You'll need your library card with you when you come to the library if you intend to check anything out.
Do not lend your library card to anyone unless you plan to be responsible for overdue or lost items. (Pretend it's a credit card, and you're liable for all transactions done with your ID.)
If an item is damaged or lost, you are responsible for repair or replacement costs.
If you fail to pay fines, your library privileges will be lost, and a collection agency may be contacted. If a book is returned after a bill is paid, the cost of the book will be refunded, but the fines will not. If the book has already been reordered, the book cost will not be refunded.
Finally, you are responsible for returning your books on time. We send out courtesy notices for past due items - fines accumulate. See the Policies page for more information.

What can I borrow?
If your card has been activated and you have no outstanding fines or blocks, you can check out up to ten (10) books, non-music CDs, videos or DVDs at any one time. See Borrowing Policies for details.

Public Computers
The library has 3 public access terminals located on the first floor near the front desk. These computers are intended for web-based activities (checking email, accessing government e-docs, etc.) and do not have productivity software (i.e. word processing). Access to these computers is first come, first served. An additional public computer is reserved for physically-disabled individuals. We ask that you limit your time on this computer, and yield to those who are waiting. Students have priority; others may be asked to limit their use.

Printing & Copying
Guests may print to the circulation desk's black-and-white printer or the color printer. The photocopier is located near the circulation desk.
B&W copies/prints are $.10 each - Color prints are $.25/side. Coins, including $1 coins, are accepted.
