Williams Library Policies

Check out the rules before you check out the books. Here are some basic rules to remember: Library users MUST have a valid ID card with them to check out materials. Your card MUST be activated at the circulation desk to use. Report a lost ID to the library immediately. If you fail to report the loss, you will be responsible for items checked out on your card.

Circulation

NSU ID or other active SD library card (must be over 18) is required.

Undergraduate and NSU Guest Borrowers:

Books, Videos, CDs, AV Materials, & Sheet Music: Two-week checkout

Fines: $2.50 every two weeks (billed cost of item at 60 days)

Bound Periodicals: Three-day checkout

Fines: $1.00 per day (billed cost of item at 30 days)

Graduate Students and University Staff:

Books, Videos, CDs, AV Materials, and Sheet Music: End of current semester

Fines: $2.50 every two weeks for books (billed cost of item at 60 days)

Bound Periodicals: Three-day checkout

Fines: $1.00 per day (billed cost of item at 30 days)

Faculty:

Books, Videos, AV Materials: Last day of spring classes

Bound Periodicals: Three-day checkout

External Borrowers (those using a library card not issued by NSU):

Books, Videos, CDs, AV Materials & Sheet Music: Two-week checkout

Fines: $2.50 every two weeks for books (billed cost of item at 60 days)

Bound Periodicals: No checkout permitted

The following items may not leave the library:

Archives material
Microforms
Individual issues of magazines and journals
Reference books

Reserves

Items held behind the circulation desk

NSU ID required to use items

You may use two items at a time

Not to be taken out of the library, unless specified by professor

Fines: $2.00 per day (billed cost of item at 7 days)

Remember, you MUST have your NSU ID card with you to check out reserves.

Holds

Ask at the circulation desk to be placed on a waiting list for items currently checked out by another patron

Receive notice when item(s) available

Pick up at the circulation desk

Recalled Items

Due on the new date indicated on the recall notice

Fines are doubled on items not returned by the recall due date

Renewals

Overdue items cannot be renewed

Books may be renewed twice

Books on which another patron has placed a hold are not renewable

Bound periodicals are not renewable

Renewals cannot be done over the phone

Renewals can be done online; after signing in, click on the My Library Card button and follow the instructions

Interlibrary Loans

NSU students and personnel only

Online interlibrary loan forms

Patron-initiated interlibrary loans available through the library catalog

Allow 1-4 weeks for delivery

Journal article copies sent via campus mail

Pick up books at circulation desk

Overdue book charge $1.00 per day

Photocopies

Copies 10¢ each

Copy cards, coins, and $1 bills accepted

Copy cards available at circulation desk
