Test Taking Skills

I) Terms
  a) state the definition of the term
  b) state the significance of the term
     1) why would the term be important, how does the term relate to the essay question
     2) what does the term tell us about the society
  c) Good terms will be about a half a page or more, or at least one good paragraph
  d) know all the terms because you will have to answer at least 8 of them
II) Essay
  a) come to the test with an outline in your head of what you want to write
  b) use many paragraphs, for each new topic use a separate paragraph
     1) the lack of paragraphs does not allow your essay to flow from one idea to another well.
  c) Know at least 4 of the study questions very well
  d) before the test, know what and how you are going to construct your essay / argument
  e) budget your time appropriately
III) Misc. advise
   a) do the terms first, if you are running out of time on the test, you can create an outline of what you want to say on the essay.  This is not possible on terms.
   b) If you know your terms and an outline for your essay, everything should flow from your pen easily.
   c) eat breakfast, brain doesn't work on an empty stomach
   d) get plenty of sleep
   e) study for the test at least for two days in advance, this will help retention of the material
