Frequently Asked Questions

(Please ask the professor before recording any lecture)。

The good news is that local grocery stores offer more Asian food materials recently, such as Tofu, rice noodles, and sushi.

Updated: as more Chinese students came in, many of them bought cell phone to keep in touch with each other. Cell phones are much cheaper than in China, and you have options to pay by minute.

8. Can I use VISA card to pay my tuitions and fees or only MASTER is permitted?

Visa Card is not available to pay for your bill. A Master Card will be okay. Some students take cash with them, but please be sure to put it in a safe position. You can also buy some Traveler's Checks before leaving for America from the Bank of China. Other than paying for your tuition fees, Visa card can be used at campus bookstore, cafe, and most of the locations in the city.

9.Some course, such as International Trade, have prerequisite. If I've studied the prerequisite in China, should I study them again before I chose the advanced courses? Or can I just provide my transcript to prove that I've studied them so that I can study the advanced course directly?

Please contact your professor directly. Professors at Northern are very warm, kind and supportive. It is always a good idea to talk to them before you get into a session. The professor will let you know if the course meets your level and needs.

10.What kind of course can I take? Are there some limits to international student?

As an international exchange student, all the courses that Northern offers are open to you no matter if you are major in them or not. You only need to consider if your home university would give you an OK for the courses you desired. Also, the course you like might be full when you are here. Then you can contact the professor to see if there is an opportunity to add you in.

11. As an exchange student, can I apply for financial aid or take part-time job?

As an international exchange student, you can take a part-time job ON CAMPUS as a student labor. Work positions are various on campus, such as cafeteria, coffee shop, C-store, gym and theatre. Please pay attention to Campus Work Information Board for new opening positions.
