TRAVEL POLICY NSU BANDS

All band members will travel from campus and return to campus on school provided transportation with the following exceptions:

1.                     Any member can depart from a contest with parents/guardians/spouse after contacting and receiving permission from the head director.  At this point, the university is no longer responsible for the member in any way after that point.

2.                   A member with the head director’s permission may travel to and from a contest  separately from the band travel party providing they will spend one night in their parents’/guardians’ home and their home is in close proximity to the destination site.

3.                   At the School of Fine Arts dean’s and head director’s discretion, special arrangements may be made if the date is immediately prior to or during a school calendar break (i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break, Easter, long weekends).

4.                   A member may be dropped off at a designated point and picked up by parents/guardians/spouse on the return trip providing the drop-off point is on the return trip route and the member has the head director’s permission.

All band members need to realize that the university is responsible for the student when they leave campus until they have safely returned to campus. Band members who have been released to their parents’/guardians’/spouse’s care or who meet the conditions of exceptions 2,3, and/or 4, are no longer the responsibility of NSU.

As a member of an NSU band you serve as a representative of Northern State University as part of one of its most visible and active student organizations on campus.  NSU bands adhere to all policies, procedures, and guidelines as stated in the annual Northern State University publication NSU Student Handbook.

When you are in uniform or on an away trip with the band, or engaged in any activity associated with the NSU Bands, bear in mind the University’s policies.

Northern State University prohibits the following for student organizations as stated in the NSU Student Handbook:

  1. Alcoholic beverages at any student sponsored event whether on or off campus.
  2. The manufacture, possession, use or dispensing of marijuana or illegal controlled substances at organizational functions.
  3. The expenditure of organizational funds on alcoholic beverages, marijuana or illegal controlled substances.
  4. The informal collection from the members or residents of monies to be spent on alcoholic beverages, marijuana or illegal controlled substances.

Any conduct which is in violation of these policies will be dealt with by the University in accordance with current policies and could result in suspension or dismissal from the The Band.

I have read the above stated policy and agree to abide with both the spirit and stated intent of the policy.
