ABERDEEN, S.D. – The author of a book that has spent more than 60 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list will deliver Northern State University’s 2018 Common Read Lecture.
Angie Thomas, author of the No. 1 New York Times bestselling book “The Hate U Give,” will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. The event—Northern’s eighth annual Common Read Lecture—is free and open to the public.
Thomas was born, raised and still resides in Jackson, Miss. A former teen rapper, she holds a BFA in Creative Writing from Belhaven University. The award-winning “The Hate U Give,” her debut novel, has received starred reviews from eight literary journals and has been optioned by Fox 2000 and Temple Hill Production. The book follows Starr Carter, an ordinary girl in extraordinary circumstances, addressing issues of racism and police violence with intelligence, heart and unflinching honesty. More information can be found at Thomas’ website.
