NSU Marching Wolves Step Off in Pierre Parade
Band Gears Up for Trip to Hawaii in November

Released September 11, 2006

The Northern State University Marching Wolves will begin their marching season by participating in the South Dakota Vietnam Memorial Dedication in Pierre on Saturday, September 16, 2006.

Organizers are calling this parade the largest parade ever in South Dakota history. Approximately 1,000 entries are expected in this event which begins at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Over 100,000 people are expected to view the parade.

"We are thrilled to participate in this historic event to honor our veterans and to show respect to our Governor for organizing this event," said Boyd Perkins, Marching Wolves Director. "This will be a great experience for our students and a super way to start off our season."

In addition to marching in this parade, the NSU Marching Wolves will join other collegiate bands in playing at the dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. on the capitol lawn.

On the way to Pierre the Marching Wolves stop in Onida for a breakfast that is being provided to them by parents of the Onida High School Marching Band. Onida is the new home to former NSU Marching Wolves drum major Brooks Bowman. Bowman is currently the band director for Onida high school.

In addition to marching in this parade, the NSU Marching Wolves will join other collegiate bands in playing at the dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. on the capitol lawn.

The NSU Marching Wolves have enjoyed a long and distinguished tradition of excellence at the regional and national level. In 2004 the NSU Marching Wolves were selected as the lone representative from South Dakota and one of only eight collegiate marching bands in the nation to appear in the January 2005 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington D.C. The group is currently preparing to represent South Dakota in the 2006 commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii.
