NSU Marching Wolves in Search of Pearl Harbor Veterans

Released May 4, 2006

(ABERDEEN, SD) This December will mark the 65th anniversary of the attack and bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Hawaiian Islands. The Northern State University Marching band has been selected to represent South Dakota in a commemoration of the event on November 20-26, 2006, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The event includes a parade in Honolulu as well as a ceremony at Pearl Harbor and the battleship Missouri. According to Dr. Boyd Perkins, Director of the Marching Wolves, "We have been asked to bring with us at least one South Dakota Pearl Harbor veteran to participate in the parade and visit the Pearl Harbor memorial site."

Veterans who attend the event will be honored as heroes in the parade and ride in front of the band in a convertible with a banner indicating you are a South Dakota Pearl Harbor attack veteran. The cost of air travel, hotel, some meals, and ground transportation is roughly $2000 per person though some alternate resources may be available. Interested veterans should contact Boyd Perkins at 605-626-2501.
