All Star Marching Band Camp Held in Sioux Falls

Released June 29, 2006

(ABERDEEN, SD) The Northern State University All-Star Marching Camp is currently under way at the South Dakota School for the Hearing Impaired in Sioux Falls. The camp will run through Saturday and offers all students exposure to top instruction in the area of marching band performance and provides performance and leadership skills necessary to excel in any school marching band program.

Dr. Boyd Perkins, Director of Bands at Northern State University, oversees all aspects of the band program at the university including The NSU Marching Wolves

and serves as the camp director. He is supported by the Drum Major Camp Director, Daniel Carlson, who currently is the director of the Lincoln High School Marching Band in Sioux Falls. The Drumline portion of the camp is under the direction of Peter Hanson, a percussion clinician and private teacher from Sioux Falls, and James Panerio, instructor of percussion at NSU in Aberdeen.

"The camp is finding a lot of excitement and will grow exponentially in the future, and the marching bands in the area will definitely benefit for working with the finest staff in the upper Midwest," said Perkins. "We have a lot to offer Northern and we hope to continue to grow and expand our outreach. The South Dakota School for the Hearing Impaired is providing us with outstanding facilities and has been extremely accommodating."

The camp is for students in grades 7-12 as well as directors interested in honing their skills. For additional information on this year's camp or other fine arts events at NSU visit www.northern.edu or contact the NSU School of Fine Art at 605-626-2500.
