NSU Welcomes Local Professor for Book Discussion
Released February 6, 2008
(Aberdeen, S.D.) Dr. Thom Flamboe, professor at Presentation College,
will discuss his latest book “Can You Fix Him? Adventures
in Child Therapy.” The discussion will be held on Tue., Feb,
26 from 12-1 p.m. at Northern State University’s Beulah Williams
Library Round Room. His book is based on his work with children
and parents over a 30 year period as a therapist and educator.
According to Adrian Pratt, former Aberdeen American News publisher
and current publisher of the Centre Daily Times in State College,
“Thom did a tremendous job of marrying the serious with the
funny. Unlike other autobiographers, he manages to capture the essence
of his family with succinct, poignant and amusing stories. The stories
about the kids were, simply, marvelous. I liked the fact that [he]
let them take center stage. It was by turns heartbreaking, beautiful
and amusing. His gentle caring and innate sense of joy about other
human beings comes through, as does your great humor and zest for
life. I really think he has written a beauty of a book.”
Dr. Thom Flamboe began his work in Aberdeen in the fall of 1982
when he moved from Laramie, Wyo. A native of Detroit, Mich., Flamboe
holds degrees from Eastern Michigan University, the University of
Wyoming, NSU, and the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati,
Ohio. He has worked with children, parents, and families since 1970
in a variety of roles. He is an active member of the Aberdeen Community
Theater, a Senior Olympian Gold Medalist, and a two state record
holder in cycling.
