Jim Park Exhibit Opens Monday in the NSU President’s Gallery

Released February 5, 2008

Tomato RojoThe Northern State University School of Fine Arts is pleased to present an exhibition featuring the work of painter, Jim Park. The exhibition entitled “A Stillness in the Land” will run Feb. 11- Apr. 11, in the President’s Gallery located in Spafford Hall on the NSU campus. There will be an artist’s reception in the gallery on Mon, Feb. 11, beginning at 7 p.m.

Park creates his art work with the use of oil paints and oil pastels, depicting various landscapes from his life growing up in Driggs, Idaho. The pictures use a wide variety of color, making the pieces interesting from many different perspectives. The oil paintings Park’s exhibition represent the memories of his hometown and the Teton Valley, while his oil pastel paintings are of abstract landscapes and imaginary settings.

“During the spring of 2005, I was able to spend three weeks in and around Driggs, documenting my memories of the beauty of this valley,” said Park. “One hope I have is to continue this work because I feel much of the beauty of this landscape will be taken away from future generations to visually enjoy if it’s not recorded.”

“In this hectic and sometimes heartbreaking world of ours, a little authentic calmness and peace are clearly welcome,” said Bill Hoar, Director of the Northern Galleries. “In the work of Jim Park this is exactly what you get, with the added sense of stability that his large, abbreviated natural forms establish.”

The public is invited to view Park’s work in the President’s Gallery, which is located in the Spafford Hall of the NSU campus.
