Bob Courtney Receives SDCPA Distinguished Service Award
Released February 14, 2008
(Aberdeen, S.D.) Bob Courtney, Director of Residence Life and Student Development at Northern State University, received the “Patrick Merrigan Award” for Distinguished Service at the annual South Dakota College Professionals Association (SDCPA) conference in Brookings on February 6-9, 2008. A life-time achievement award, the “Patrick Merrigan Award” is the highest honor SDCPA bestows upon a member in recognition of dedication to the conference and the enhancement of student life in higher education. Courtney, who was recognized as a dedicated professional and mentor with over 30 years of experience, was nominated by his fellow members, colleagues, staff and supervisor.
“A mentor and counselor, Bob Courtney has helped countless individuals develop and grow in the student affairs field,” according to one of the nomination letters. Another stated “”Bob’s commitment to SDCPA and its goals has simply been stellar over the years. He is a past president and past treasurer…and fully participates in all aspects of the annual conference.” And finally, “The association has an opportunity to recognize a person who has dedicated over thirty years to higher education in South Dakota – a person with a heart of gold who would do anything for another person, the institution and the profession.”
SDCPA is the 220 member South Dakota chapter consisting of higher
education professionals representing 15 institutions across the
state. SDCPA is under the auspices of ACPA (American College Professionals
Association), the national organization that provides professional
development for higher education professionals engaged in Admissions,
Student Affairs, Academic Support and other professional activities
on college campuses.
