Third Annual Cowboys and Candlelight Fundraiser Scheduled

(ABERDEEN, SD) The third annual “Cowboys and Candlelight” fundraiser is being planned for Fri., Mar. 28, at 9 p.m. at the Eagle’s Club in Aberdeen. A silent auction and dance are on the schedule with music provided by the band “Silverado.” Tickets are $5 at the door. The annual fundraiser helps defray costs for the NSU Rodeo team.
This year’s recipients of the Art Aberle Memorial Scholarship are Justin Lesmeister, Faith, and Josh Whetham, Leola. The scholarship was established by Art’s wife Carol, and his children Bridget and Nik in his memory. Aberle, an avid rodeo supporter and fan, passed away in 2006.
Lesmeister served as the team’s coach for the past three years. He will graduate in May with a degree in business and a math minor. Whetham is majoring in Banking and Financial Services. He competes in calf roping, steer wrestling and team roping.
Sponsors of this event are Guthmiller, CPA, Aberdeen Livestock, Humphries Construction and Cabinets Dakota.
The rodeo team kicks off its spring rodeo season by heading to Brookings for the Jackrabbit Stampede on April 4-5. Following that, the team will travel to Lincoln, Neb., Rapid City, Spearfish and Dickinson, N.D.
