NSU Trumpet Group Dominant 7 to Perform on South Dakota Public Television

The Dominant 7

Released April 25, 2008

(ABERDEEN, SD) Northern State University Trumpet Group, The Dominant 7, will be taping a live upcoming performance in Aberdeen that will air this fall on South Dakota Public Television.
Crews from South Dakota Public Television will tape a live performance of The Dominant 7 on the evening of Fri, May 2, at the Johnson Fine Arts Center. The taping which begins at 8:30 p.m., is free and open to the public will air in September on “No Cover, No Minimum” on South Dakota Public Television.

“No Cover, No Minimum” is a production of SDPB Television that focuses South Dakota musical talents who are from or performing in the state.

The Dominant 7 is a trumpet and rhythm group under the direction of Dr. Grant Manhart. The group is comprised of, on average, 7 trumpets, rhythm and bass.

Joining the special Friday night televised performance will include east coast recording artist, and NSU graduate Doug Woolverton, as well as NSU alumni Danielle Cirelli and Brian Harding.

“We could have as many as nine trumpeters performing for this special. We are looking forward to the chance to share with a statewide televised audience our unique style of jazz, blues, funk, New Orleans and even some classical stuff,” said Director Dr. Grant Manhart. “I encourage folks to come out and be a part of our first televised special featuring the NSU School of Fine Arts.”

Northern State University’s Dominant 7 has performed across the country including appearances at the grand opening of the Sami Center for the performing arts in Spirit Lake Iowa, the international Trumpet Guild, opening for Arturo Sandoval, the University of Wisconsin spring Varsity band concert and the Inauguration of Governor Mike Rounds.

“This performance will allow us to share on a much larger stage the exceptional quality of our fine arts program and our talented students at NSU,” said Patrick Schloss, NSU President. “We hope this is the first of many future opportunities to partner with South Dakota Public Broadcasting.”
