Steve Rasmussen Accepts Director Position at NSU

(ABERDEEN, SD) Dr. Clyde Arnold, provost and vice president of
academic affairs at Northern State University is pleased to announce
that Steve Rasmussen has accepted the position of Director of
Federal Student Support Services Grant and Academic Support
Coordinator for the office of University College at Northern State
University. Rasmussen served as interim director prior to his
appointment.
University College creates communities of learners by providing all
new students with the assistance they need to be successful. The
University College staff support students with advising, learning
communities and academic support services which are designed to
challenge students to overcome barriers through academic
programming.
Rasmussen, a native of Fairbanks, Alaska, earned his B.S. and M.A.
from Washington State University in Spokane. He and his wife,
Lysbeth Benkert, live in Aberdeen with their children Jeanne (9) and
Andreas (7).
Also joining the staff of University College are:
Heather Scott, an Aberdeen native, has been hired as the new
Director of NSU’s Student Support Services. In her new position,
Scott will use a federally-funded grant to help first-generation,
low-income and/or disabled college students graduate. Scott, who
received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from NSU,
served as the Student Disability Services Coordinator and
Institutional Research/Assessment Coordinator at Presentation
College prior to her appointment to NSU. She and her husband, Chris,
have two children, Veronica (3) and Catharina (2).
Minnesota native, Alan Clipperton, will serve as the new Coordinator
of NSU’s new English as a Second Language Program (ESL). Alan
recently graduated with a graduate degree in Teaching English to
Speakers of Other Languages from Minnesota State University,
Mankato, and has experience teaching the English language both in
the U.S. and overseas. He and his wife, Angela, have two children,
Lydia (3) and Ezra (18 months).
Heidi Fisher, originally from Ashton, earned both her B.A. and
M.S.Ed., from NSU. She has accepted the position of Academic Support
Coordinator for the university. In her new position, Fisher will
coordinate supplemental instruction, general tutoring and academic
mentor programs. She will also oversee the data collection for
University College tutoring programs, and assist in the coordination
and administration of proficiency exams. Prior to joining the staff
at University College, Fischer served as the marketing director for
United Clinic in Aberdeen. She and her husband, Jeff, have two
children, Bryce (11) and Peyton (4).
