ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University instructor Kristi Bockorny has co-written
a chapter to be published in a book, “Employee Engagement in Theory and Practice.”
Bockorny, an instructor in the NSU School of Business, has worked at NSU since spring 2009. She also is a Ph.D. candidate working on a dissertation through Bellevue University in Bellevue, Neb.
Bockorny is co-author of the chapter, Engagement in the Context of Positive Psychology, with Dr. Carolyn Youssef-Morgan, chair of business at Bellevue University.
The chapter - which will be the second in the book - has a unique perspective on positivity and how it can be used to enhance employee engagement. The chapter begins with a review of traditional positivity approaches in management and psychology, including motivation, job satisfaction and transformational leadership.
It also includes discussion of re contemporary approaches such as positive psychology, positive organizational behavior, positive organizational scholarship and psychological capital. The chapter concludes with practical implications on how to select, develop and manage positivity successfully to foster engagement.
The book will be published by Routledge with a publication date in 2014. Editors are Catherine Truss, Rick Delbridge, Kerstin Alfes, Amanda Shantz and Emma Soane.
