Students in grades 4-8 from across the state will compete in Krikac Auditorium. Preliminary rounds take place in the morning, with the final round beginning at 1 p.m.

This is the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition, which is now in its 26th year. The National Geographic Society organizes the Geographic Bee. This year’s state sponsors are Google and Plum Creek, and hosts are the NSU Honors Program and the NSU College of Arts and Sciences.

The state winner will receive $100, the “Complete National Geographic on DVD” and a trip to Washington, D.C., to represent South Dakota in the National Geographic Bee finals May 19-21.
The national winner will receive a $50,000 college scholarship, lifetime membership in the society and an all-expenses-paid trip (along with one parent or guardian) to the Galápagos Islands. For more information on the National Geographic Bee, visit www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee.
