ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University senior Stephanie Horkey will hold an opening reception for her senior art exhibit, “Growing Within,” from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 13 in the NSU Beulah Williams Library.
Horkey, a fine arts major, is the daughter of Curt Horkey of Lakeville, Minn., and Karin Horkey of Apple Valley, Minn., and is a graduate of Burnsville Senior High School. Horkey chose Northern because she enjoyed the small-town experience, and for the great softball program.
She favors mixed media as her artistic method of choice and particularly enjoys working with art professors Greg Blair, Sara Christensen Blair and Peter Kilian. Horkey said her favorite part of her Northern experience has been professors who know her by name and help her develop her ideas and grow as a person.
The “Growing Within” exhibit includes a variety of pieces Horkey created using mixed media, sculpture, printmaking and paintings. Her exhibit will run Dec. 4-13 in Williams Library.
Horkey will graduate in December with a B.A. in fine arts, and plans to enroll in museum studies in graduate school.
