ABERDEEN, S.D. - JoEllen Lindner will join Northern State University July 1 as vice president for student affairs.
Lindner comes to NSU from the Aberdeen Catholic School System, where she had been president since February 2013.
In her new role, Lindner will assume primary responsibility for student enrollment and oversee the offices of student affairs and admissions.
“We had an opportunity to retool our student affairs and admissions offices with vacancies left by our former VP of student affairs and director of admissions,” said NSU President James Smith. “As we started to redesign our work in those two areas, it was obvious that one of the best candidates in our region was right here in the city of Aberdeen.”
From 2002 to 2013, Lindner served Presentation College as dean of advancement, dean of admissions and vice president of enrollment. She directed marketing and recruitment strategies, supervised staff in admissions and financial aid, and exceeded enrollment goals for degree-seeking students in fall 2012 by 131 percent. Lindner was associate director of admissions at Mount Marty College in Yankton from 1992 to 1999.
“Her work at Presentation College and Mount Marty College made our choice exceptionally easy,” said Smith. “Additionally, her recent work with K-12 students solidified a connection with area school-aged youth – a connection we hold in the highest regard.”
“I’m excited about this opportunity to return to higher education,” said Lindner. “I’ve spent the better part of my career in higher education working with students to provide them opportunities to prepare for life beyond college. And the opportunity to come alongside Northern in this way is just a great fit for my skills and passions.”
