ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will host the 60th annual mathematics contest beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the NSU Barnett Center.
Contest director Dr. A. S. Elkhader, NSU professor of mathematics, anticipates that roughly 1,200 contestants from approximately 50 area schools will participate in the event.
The contest traditionally features four divisions: elementary algebra, geometry, advanced algebra and senior math.
In addition to the individual awards of first through fifth place in each division, a traveling trophy will be awarded to the school having the highest-percentage combined score in each division. A plaque will be awarded to the coach of each school that has a first-place winner.
Awards will be presented at a ceremony, which is open to the public, at 1 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center auditorium.
Students participating in the senior math portion of the event may submit a completed NSU scholarship application to be considered for NSU math scholarships.
